sitting on top of the world.

never seen a sky so blue.
i've never been happy with anyone,
like I am when I'm with you, yeah.

look at the sun shining up in the sky.
and I feel a little closer to heaven, baby,
when I'm looking into your eyes, yeah.

and as long as we're together, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world.
wanna feel this way forever, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world.

last night i lay in the dark,
t
ryin' to figure it out,
t
ryin' to talk to my heart.
b
ut now it's morning and i still don't know why.

all i know is that you got me feeling so good, baby.
all i know is that it feels the way that true love should.
ain't no one luckier than you and i.

and as long as we're together, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world.
wanna feel this way forever, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world.

everybody's got an opinion 'bout how this should be.
but they don't understand it,
no, no, they just can't see,
that i belong with you and baby, baby,
baby, you belong with me.

and as long as we're together, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world
wanna feel this way forever, boy
i'm sitting on top of the world.

and as long as we're together, boy
i'm sitting on top, said i'm sitting on top,
sitting on top of the world, yeah.

i know he loves me 'cause baby's so good to me.
i know he needs me 'cause baby's so good to me.
no, i've never been happy baby,
like i am when i get next to you.

Canada wins Bronze in figure skating! (and GOLD in women's hockey!)

So, for anyone who doesn't know, I love watching figure skating!  It has been a tradition for my mom and I to watch it every year since I was young.  I just think that it is so beautiful.  I wish I could do the crazy jumps and spins that they do!

Tonight, watching the Olympics, was so emotional.  Joannie Rochette's mom, as most people who watch the Olympics know, passed away a couple days ago; the night before her first competition.  No one was sure how well she was going to be able to skate.  And in the beginning there was a question of whether she would skate at all.  But she skated, and she did a beautiful job.  She ended up winning a BRONZE medal!  Her dad was in the crowd to cheer her on.  Watching the medal ceremony, you just felt so happy, but also so sorry for her at the same time.  But she was smiling away.  And there were tears, of both joy and saddness I'm sure.  I was just so glad for her though.  She is so brave!

Also, on a side note, Canada beat USA in women's hockey for the GOLD MEDAL tonight as well!  whooot.

Go Joannie Rochette!
and
GO CANADA!  whoohoo!

Looking forward to CMW!

As my hectic week is coming to an end, I find myself looking forward to Canadian Music Week!  It is approaching quickly!

I decided tonight that I had to get a move on ordering my business cards.  CMW seems to be creeping up on me much faster than I thought.

I felt that creating a business card is a smart idea because, although I do not have a company or any specific business to offer yet, it is a great way to get my name out there.  And even if just one person remembers my name out of all the people I hand cards to, it's worth it to me.  The card states that I am a student.  So you never know, it could spark an internship opportunity or something along those lines!

We shall see I suppose!
I can only hope.

I've gotta get some sleep now.. still have a few tests to write this week.

PS.  On a side note, GO CANADA for completely owning Russia in their hockey game tonight!!  Whoohoo!

What a crazy week!

School is just absolutely insane right now!

I go from having a beautiful weekend, to a gagillion assignments/tests this week.

It started yesterday with 8am class.. 8am theory class at that.  What a waste of my life.  Then we had class in the afternoon.  After class I was supposed to be having a class/band rehearsal at my place but it got moved to Adam and Pete's place so we had to wait around a bit at my place incase some people showed up who didn't get the memo about the location swap.  And it was a good thing we did, because two people showed up.

We then headed over to Adam and Pete's place for rehearsal, which was fun.  We are working on a class lift.  It is exactly the same as our individual lifts (the thing I'm learning Jack's Mannequin for) but it is being done as a class.  The song we chose is "Take Me To The Riot" by Stars.  I was still having some chord issues with my part on the keyboard, but I think we worked them out.  Hopefully I will be able to play tomorrow in our 'real' rehearsal in the studio without any mistakes.

After rehearsal, Caitlin and I headed to the MPL to work on our project for Digital Production.  We were there from approximately 5/5:30pm until 4am!  Is that not ridiculous??  I slept in so late today because I was just so tired from last night.

Tonight I feel like the list of tasks is just neverending.  I have to look into business cards for CMW, send a few emails, practise the class song for recording beds tomorrow, I have an essay outline due tomorrow, a test for my Styles class to study for AND I have to call Dell 'cause my stupid computer still isn't working properly even though I've already called them and it was supposedly 'fixed'.

Later on this week I have another test to study for, which is on Thursday, for my Digital Production class on the program Logic.  I hate Logic!  And I also have studio time Thursday night.

I just can't wait for Thursday night when I can go home and know that I have a week to relax.  Mind you, I have two essays to write over reading week so I won't be fully without school, but still.. I will be done all of the things I just mentioned.  SOMEONE SAVE ME FROM THIS WEEK!  gahhh.  Reading week couldn't come soon enough!  And I am very much looking forward to seeing Jack's Mannequin Friday night with Jenny.

Wish me luck, because seriously, I'm gonna need it.

stress.. stress.. stress..

Geez, school sure is stressful right now!

Last night, I spent a pretty big chunk of time in the MPL (the Music Production Lab) at school working on an assignment.  I was there until 2am and had 8am class this morning.  I felt good thought because I got about half way through the assignment and I finally felt like I had at least accomplished a little bit of the work that needed to be done.  Between lift projects, editing projects, essays and presentations, I literally have 7 different projects on the go at the moment.  SO BRUTAL.

So as I was saying, last night I came home and felt that I had accomplished something.  Well that feeling vanished quickly when I was working on my Jack's Mannequin lift today.  I was working on learning the song on the piano with the sheet music.  I then decided to stop and listen to the actual recording to make sure everything was matching up.  Was it?  Of course not.  The sheet music is definitely different than the recording of the song.  All day, I couldn't understand why it would be different.  When I got home I decided to look up the sheet music on the Jack's Mannequin website.  It says beside where you can purchase the book that it is a beginner's book and that therefore the music is not fully transcribed.  Perfect.  If only I knew this to begin with, because all of the other instruments have been played by ear exactly with the recording.  So basically, I need a game plan.. and fast.

Jenny and I came up with a brilliant idea of course!  We decided that since we are going to see Jack's Mannequin in concert in Toronto next Friday, that I will just ask Andrew personally if he has or knows of any sheet music that I could get my hands on that matches the recording of the song exactly.  He will for sure have an answer for me, considering he wrote the song.

So, more on how that goes next weekend.  Wish me luck.. 'cause if I don't get an answer.. it's either sit and learn the song by ear (which for a classical player who is used to having sheet music for her songs at all times, is super hard!), or I don't get to play on my lift.. which would really suck because half the reason I chose to do this song was because I wanted to play the piano part myself.  It's so pretty!
Anyways, if anyone has any alternate ideas for me.. please do not be shy to share!

All I can say at this time is.. I can't wait for reading week so I can relax for a bit!

Hopefully things will work out.

"Kill the Messenger".

So for my recording engineering class, we have an assignment to do called a 'lift'.  This is where we have to choose a song, and rerecord it and recreate it as closely to the orginal as possible.  The song I chose to do is, "Kill the Messenger" by Jack's Mannequin.
I don't want to jynx it, but so far it seems to be going well.  Last Thursday night, I was in the studio recording the drums.  Bryson Cassidy was nice enough to learn the song and play drums for me.  And might I add that he is quite talented.. or as Becky puts it, "Man, he's smooth." haha.. :)

I have decided that I want to play piano on my own lift.  Tonight was my first crack at learning the song.  It's a bit more challenging than I expected, seeing as I'm quite rusty it seems.  Although, my goal for tonight was to the learn the first page of the song and I did.  Hopefully I can keep this pace up; learning a page per night.  Then, once I've learned the song, I can focus on speeding it up.  The speed is what's going to kill me.  I'm just praying that with all of my other assignments mixed in, that I can still finish the song in time to record it.

On Friday, I have Allan coming into the studio with me to record the bass and guitar for the song.  It should be interesting.

It's all very exciting, but very stressful at the same time.

Wish me luck!

The Bachelor anyone?

Yes, I watch "The Bachelor" and I'm not embarrassed to admit it!
I just can't get enough of it!

Last night, Jake narrowed it down to only two girls!

Will it be Vienna or Tenley who marries Jake in the end??  Personally, I'm rooting for Tenley!

I originally wanted Gia; she was super cute.  But he eliminated her last night! :(

I can't wait to watch "The Women Tell All" episode next Monday!

Happy Valentine's Weekend! ♥

Happy Valentine's!

So, I will admit.. I had much more a reason to celebrate Valentine's day this year than other years.  But I've always loved Valentine's day!
A friends of mine had her facebook status as the following and I think it's really beautiful.  I think this is why I've always loved Valentine's Day..

"Valentine's Day is not about whether you are single or in a couple.  It is about the LOVE in your life.  It is a day where you should stop and remind those in your life that they are important and loved by you.  Surprise those close to you and make sure they know!  Everyone is loved.  Some of us just don't know it.  I sent my Mom flowers and chocolates today 'cause I wouldn't be who I am without her."
I always buy my mom flowers as well because I believe the same thing.  I think that the above quote is very true.  Valentine's Day is not just about being single or in a couple.. it is about EVERYONE in your life that you love.  I put hearts on my best friends' facebook pages.. because I love them. :)
Some may say that I am only saying this because I am in a relationship and have someone special to spend Valentine's Day with.. but I have always felt this way about Valentine's Day.  I have always loved handing out Valentines to my friends and wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!  I love dressing in red and pink and feeling festive.. and eating heart shaped chocolates and those heart shaped candies that have the cute little messages on them.  And even though there have been years where I haven't had that "special someone" or a date on Valentine's Day and even though seeing it sometimes does remind you that you are single.. I still enjoyed seeing how happy couples seem to be on that day.  I've always enjoyed watching people celebrate their love for one another, whether it be a couple,a group of friends, or family members.  And whether it's been staying in with a bunch of chick flicks with my friends or going out and getting drunk, we've always seemed to make it a good time. :)

With that said, Allan and I did have a fantastic weekend.  We both had a very stressful week at school the week before so it was nice to be able to just relax.  We didn't spend a lot of money.. which is always a plus.  (working a the movie theatre does come in handy.)
Friday night we went to see "When In Rome".. which was AWEFUL by the way. Allan's sister Sarah picked it so we're blaming her, hahah! It was just all around bad; bad acting.. bad story line.. just bad.
Saturday night we played Seinfeld Scene It with Allan's family, which was pretty fun. I then conned Allan into watching "The Notebook". ;) He had never seen it! Can you believe that?? I would have to say that "The Notebook" is the ultimate romance movie. He thought it was cheesy.. but whatever. He's a boy. In my opinion, everyone has to see that movie at least once in their life.

Sunday was Valentine's Day. We had a great morning just kinda hanging out and relaxing. We went to see the afternoon showing of the movie "Valentine's Day", which I LOVED. It definitely lived up to my expectations. Afterwards, Allan wanted to drive down to Bayfront Park. This is where Allan asked me to be his girlfriend back in the summer so it was kinda cute. But I was forced to freeze my ass off by the water, haha. But it was really pretty with all the snow. And for some reason there were like, a million geese in the water and there were swans! The swans were soo pretty. I tried to get good pictures but it was too dark. We then headed over to the grocery store and bought all the requirements to make some home-made pizza. When we got back to Allan's, we decided to exchange little presents.  Allan wrote me a beautiful letter and got me a cute little pink photo album filled with pictures of the two of us. It was super cute.  I made Allan an old-school card with doilees and stickers on it, hahah and nice picture of us smack in the middle. And then I just made up a cute little care basket for him. I also took the liberty of hiding heart-shaped post its with cute messages on them all over his room for him to find, haha. After that, we made our home made pizza, which was delicious by the way, and relaxed while watching "Pretty Woman" (one of my all time favourites, which Allan also hadn't seen!). Yes, I talked Allan into watching A LOT of chick flicks this weekend.. but I think secretly he liked at least half of them. ;)  I just love staying up late and sleeping in. It's my favourite. :D  It was such a beautiful weekend and I have Allan to thank for that. I love you so much baby.

I hope everyone else had a great Valentine weekend as well!

Now I'm back to stressful school this week.. yes, I love it.. but it's driving me crazy right now! ;)
